I had glorious plans about where I’d be in terms of rewrites for The Mythology of Us, but we all know what happens to the best laid plans of mice and men; they get buried under snow and enter hibernation. Combining my participation in a three-month mentorship program where I worked closely with a baby writer in her teens with the immediate, vicious drop in energy as soon as the temperature dropped, I dropped the ball. Hard.
According to my initial projections I should have breezed through revisions and be one third deep into rewrites, but I’m still on Part I out of XII — and started documenting my daily progress on my personal Tumblr, thinking it’d be easier to see my process mapped out this way. That’s pretty much abandoned.
Finishing. Things. Is. Hard. In. Winter.
Compared to previous years, my SAD has remained – dare I say it – polite. DEMURE, even, so I have the benefit of not living life as a series of deep, personal tragedies, but I’m woefully tired and muddy-minded. Yet, I’m clawing my way back to some semblance of continuous work.
Currently, I’m on a near six-day streak and maybe it will be easier to work on a monthly dispatch, rather than a daily one.
Here we go, then!
January 2017: 6783 words — hard-earned, sporadic, swimming against kicked-up silt clouds to reach clearer water. I think I’m getting there.
Progress: Part I (out of XII); currently on Chapter 5 (out of 5)
