Announcement: Reviewer Position at TOR.com Acquired

I might have mentioned on Facebook back in early December that I’ve signed a contract and now that the paperwork is done and approved, I can yap all I want about it!

As the title says it, you’re looking at the newest reviewer for TOR.com. So what will I do at this dream place? I’ll focus on short fiction. Apart from reviews of anthologies and collections (and maybe magazines), I’ll also head a monthly column where I present short fiction writers publishing right now.

Falling Into Old Habits: Guess Who is Reviewing Again?

In a strange, short-lived return to reviewing, I’ve recently tackled several short fiction venues of great repute and long traditions in the genre publishing scene – Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet and Asimov’s Science Fiction. It took me a significant time to sit down and put my thoughts into a discourse that didn’t exhaust itself with ‘I (don’t) like this’.

Why I remember now why I stepped as a regular reviewer, I can’t help but get excited when I am presented the opportunity to analyze short fiction. Both reviews are up at SF Signal.

The Reviews, Eligibility and Milestone Post

I have read many posts about reading your own reviews and many more about awards season self-promotion. I have said a lot of sage things about reading your own reviews as in “do not read reviews” and “I’m way too shy to promote my own work”, but do I do as I say?

Far from it.

Ever since “The Fungi That Talk Softly” came out I’ve been super hyped about it. It’s one of the stories I consider a milestone in my writing as it departed from how I normally approach a story. It’s certainly a publishing milestone as it made its way into one of my prized markets.

“The Tracks that Tower over Valleys” reviewed at BFS

I’m very happy to see that “The Tracks that Tower over Valleys”, my first ever sold short story, received a good review over at the British Fantasy Society site. Glen Mehn summarized it best here:
