This has been happening for two weeks now, but the pressure of external deadlines has held me back from talking about it on the blog. Here it goes!
The wonderful organizers behind the World SF Travel Fund, who are responsible in funding convention going for writers and editors without the means to travel on their own, have picked me as the recipient for this year. If the campaign is successful, I will be attending World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga Springs.
Here is the skinny from the press release:
“Haralambi Markov is a Bulgarian critic, editor, and author. He is a Clarion workshop 2014 graduate, and his stories were published inn Tor.com and elsewhere. As a young writer on the road to professional publication, writing in English as a second language and coming from the former Eastern bloc, we believe he is an ideal candidate for the fund, and will both benefit the convention and himself with being able to travel to WFC this year, which is a professional gathering of the genre’s foremost practitioners.
The Fund has set up this Kickstarter Project with the hope of bringing Haralambi Markov, as well as next year’s recipient, over to World Fantasy, and in the process documenting Markov’s journey from Bulgaria to Saratoga Springs, through a convention report to be made available to all the reward recipients.
The Board, tasked with selecting future candidates, is composed of Lauren Beukes, Aliette de Bodard, Nnedi Okorafor, Ekaterina Sedia, and Charles Tan, reflecting the truly international nature of the SF world today. Administrators are Sean Wallace and Lavie Tidhar.”
