It’s March! Hey, who kidnapped me and drugged me until it was March?! Huh?! Was it you?*
February has been a month devoted to recuperation. After encountering RSI (Oh, hai there, RSI, please don’t make me squeal like a wounded animal) for the first time, most of what I did in February concerned swift recuperation.** As I don’t do well with pain, I teetered out of control and went off course with what I intended to achieve this month. Nevertheless, I feel February as a month dedicated to stasis and mending. It’s rooted in my biology to hibernate during February. If January is the dramatic rebirth, February is the short spell of repletion as a necessary prerequisite to take on the months to follow. I take time to adjust my Lycra super hero suit and brave another year as the masked avenger known under the moniker Twenty Something – expert at self deprecation, artistic doubt and unrealistic expectations.
I wait for the day when I will leap off a tall building and fly into action.***
I did get through a short story revision, which I intended to send off to a project, but the waterworld post-apolyptic tale decided it wanted to be bigger. “The Girl with One Eye” has been in my head for a year and exists as a very clumsy first draft of a story, but speaks volumes to me, so I will see where it leads me. The ideas I want to entertain will take a novelette – novella length to fully fresh out, but it can grow into a short novel.
On the publishing front, I have good news. Electric Velocipede will publish my fungal weird short “The Fungi that Talk Softly” and Adele Wearing at Fox Spirit Books has accepted my short “The Woman and the Jar of Words” for her anthology project “Tales of the Fox & the Fae” – I’m even mentioned in the promo post, which I don’t need to say is pretty darn cool. That’s two sales, which makes my short story appearences for the year four in total. A crazy number for someone used to rejections.
In other news, I have played some role playing games, including D&D! I’m pretty jazzed up on getting on with March and see how it goes.

* I’m just asking cause sometimes I need really good painkillers and maybe you could hook me up with some good black market horse tranquilizers. Any who…
** Hello, trashy reality TV and a Downton Abbey season 3 marathon.
*** Otherwise known as March or never, if you intend to put atop a tall building and ask me to jump. Nuh-uh.
